Cockroaches, spiders and excrement serve as journalists’ vengeance from eBay management

David Harvill, eBay’s former director of global sustainability, was convicted of using bugs and other unusual means as part of a campaign to harass and intimidate journalists critical of the service. message about it seen on the Guardian website.

In 2020, the US Department of Justice accused seven senior former eBay employees of harassing and intimidating EcommerceBytes journalists, a married couple, Inna and David Steiner. Harville was the last of the eBay executives to admit their guilt.

eBay’s senior executives did not like the critical notes of the EcommerceBytes authors and therefore intimidated journalists in various ways. Their actions included both junk doxing (searching and publishing personal or confidential information about a person without their consent) and sending spooky packages. The contents of the latter turned out to be funeral wreaths on various occasions, books with advice on how to recover from the loss of a loved one, live cockroaches and spiders.

In addition, Harville and his colleagues once broke into a couple’s garage and attached a GPS tracker to their car. During the next visit to the journalists, the perpetrators planned to put a bag of feces under the journalists’ door.

Harville faces up to 20 years in prison for his actions. The decision will be made on September 29, 2022.
