Apple has delayed the development of a HomePod smart speaker with a display until at least 2024. Power On about it in my new summary reported prominent insider and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, the delay is part of Apple’s cost-cutting strategy. Postponing the creation of the new HomePod will allow Apple to direct more money into research and development in higher priority areas such as augmented and mixed reality.
The cost-cutting strategy is said to have improved Apple’s stability in a volatile global economy. Specifically, Apple’s efforts will help the company avoid massive cuts to Meta (recognized and banned in Russia as extremist), Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
Avoiding layoffs Apple will also help waive bonus payments and hire new employees in some corporate divisions.
