A fake Dropship app has surfaced on Google Play that mimics a program for Samsung. About Wrote Sammyfans Portal. Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity expert Igor Golovin told socialbites.ca that fake programs don’t always contain malicious code, but they can be added later, so you shouldn’t download fake apps.
“We reviewed the app and did not find any malicious code in it. In fact, it’s an empty app: when someone installs it and launches it, “The app needs to be updated!” ‘His stud is visible,’ said Golovin.
When developer Assert Studio’s app opens, it prompts for the update to be downloaded even if the smartphone has the latest available version installed. So, currently the app has no functionality.
According to the expert, there have been cases when a legitimate program was initially placed on the official app store and in the future it received additional malicious functions. Also, fraudulent applications periodically appear in the Russian-language section of Google Play. It is difficult to control their functionality when they are published in the store.
“Usually, such programs act as a “layer” between the victim and the source of the fraud. To check if they are really fake, you need to analyze the web resource itself. However, the developers of official app stores are quick to expose various malicious or fraudulent programs. It is important to note that they try to respond in such a way and remove them, check downloaded applications, ”says the expert.
The real Dropship file sharing app is only available on Samsung Galaxy Store. The fake app appeared on Google Play on November 5, two weeks later it still hasn’t been removed.
Golovin recommends downloading applications only from official sources. But before that it will not be superfluous to spend some time on a superficial analysis: look at the developer, reviews and rating.
