The Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union reviewed the red card issued to Wilmar Barrios, a Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder, and rejected the club’s appeal. The committee decision was communicated during a televised briefing, with a representative stating that no additional suspension would be imposed on the player.

According to official statements, Barrios appeared at the hearing via video link. After considering all case materials and circumstances, the committee determined that Barrios would miss only one match rather than facing a longer disqualification.

The Colombian international received the sending-off in the early weeks of the Russian Premier League season during Zenit’s match against Dynamo Moscow. In the 90th minute of regular time, the referee, after reviewing the incident on video, red-carded Barrios for a dangerous challenge that left Dynamo defender Denis Makarov with an injured ankle.

The game proceeded with a dramatic finish, as Dynamo Moscow converted a late goal by Vyacheslav Grulev in stoppage time, securing a 3-2 victory over Zenit. The decisive strike came just moments after Barrios left the field, shaping the final outcome of a tightly contested fixture.

Looking ahead, Zenit is scheduled to host Fakel Voronezh in the next round of the league. The match is set to take place on August 13, continuing Zenit’s campaign in the RPL as the season progresses.

Historically tied to St. Petersburg, the matter continues to be a talking point for supporters and analysts, reflecting ongoing debates about discipline, gameplay, and the club’s performance in the league.
