The youth championship continues its ascent as the top 16 teams prepare for the opening round of direct elimination. The Malaysia 2023 U-17 World Cup is proceeding as scheduled, following an exciting group phase that delivered memorable matches, a few surprises, and an average of 3.5 goals per game. Those 16 teams have earned a place in the knockout stage, each aiming to capture the title and etch their nation’s name in junior football history.
As with past editions, the knockout stage will be decided in a single match. If the score is level at the end of regular time, play moves into two extra periods of 15 minutes each, and if a winner still cannot be found, the match will be settled by penalties.
