Trinidad Alfonso Foundation strengthens the Valencian Community sports network with the Community of Teams program
The Trinidad Alfonso Foundation dedicates itself to reinforcing the regional sports ecosystem by supporting clubs through the Community of Teams program. The third call has closed, furthering the aim of promoting clubs across Alicante, Valencia, and Castellón that compete in the senior national leagues. This edition brings together 40 clubs—one more than last year—collectively backed by a total fund of around 1.4 million euros. The Foundation commits this support from its own resources to achieve two clear goals: bolstering clubs’ financial durability and ensuring sustained representation of Valencian teams in the top tiers of national competition.
► The initiative provides clubs with practical tools to secure long-term financial stability and future viability. It also aims to elevate the presence of Valencian teams in the country’s premier leagues.
The final distribution of aid depends on each club’s total budget and several variable factors. These include the league level reached, the size of the playing squads, whether teams field both men’s and women’s teams, the proportion of Valencian players, and the ability to attract private sponsorships. Ten clubs in this edition will contest the highest category in their sport this season, with three of them reaching that level. In addition, teams from handball and roller hockey are set to participate in European competition.
Eight sports are represented by the participating teams, including basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, water polo, and three variants of hockey: field, inline, and roller hockey. The program began two years ago with a specific aim: to mitigate the impact of the severe economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and prevent the loss of competitive potential among Valencian teams in the top national leagues. Since then, the Foundation and its leadership have stressed that these are not one-off gestures but a sustained effort to reinforce club structures and athletic performance across the Valencian Community, protecting talent and supporting steady growth.
Two years of grants have already built momentum, with on-going European competition opportunities and strengthened local projects. The leadership emphasizes that the emphasis is on building durable, professional systems within clubs, rather than short-term relief. This approach has helped teams address challenging seasons and maintain a trajectory toward higher national and international competition, while preserving the social value that sport provides to families and communities.
Within the same program, support has also helped clubs professionalize their operations and sustain a resilient structure for the long term. The impact spans increased resources, more stable management, and a stronger pathway for Valencian athletes to compete at higher levels while remaining rooted in their home teams and communities.
As clubs advance, the Foundation notes the importance of responsible governance and credible partnerships. The financial aid is designed to open doors for young talents and support the development of robust youth pipelines, so families and local supporters can continue to invest in sport as a social asset. The overarching message is clear: sustained backing from the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation helps Valencian clubs stay competitive, attract durable sponsorship, and contribute to a thriving regional sports culture.
The president of a prominent perpetually rising club noted how this support enables a professionalizing process and a stable project that serves as a reference point in the province. The assistance has helped them develop a credible management system that strengthens the club’s image and its connections with families and the business community, underscoring the role of responsible leadership in turning athletic success into lasting community value.
A different club highlighted how the program’s resources have supported a return to top national competition and a pathway to European events, illustrating the tangible impact of sustained funding on performance and opportunity for players and staff alike.
Another club emphasized that the ongoing drive of the Foundation makes it possible to operate a more sustainable project each day, reinforcing the sense that it is natural to remain closely linked to the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and elite sport. The professional management framework provided through this support lends credibility and stability, which resonates through the families, partners, and broader business environment surrounding the clubs.

The president of Valencia Xaloc Hockey Club noted that the financial aids translate into real opportunities for the Valencian sports fabric. They help clubs and families navigate challenging times, ensuring that a lasting tradition of sport and social service remains intact. The addition of a senior women’s team has opened new channels for support, enabling professionalization of the club’s structure and fostering resilience. This momentum reflects a belief in the bright potential of local athletes to rise to national and international prominence through determined development and community backing.
