Quatre Carreres Sports Center hosted the ceremony announcing the fourth edition of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Sports Community Teams support program. The event featured the foundation’s director, Juan Miguel Gómez, and a large delegation of seven elite clubs from disciplines such as handball, rugby and national volleyball. The fourth edition expands the program to as many as 40 teams, with 55 clubs having participated since its inception in 2020. During the remarks, Juan Roig, president of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, highlighted the progress achieved by Valencian clubs in recent years. He cited Les Abelles in rugby and Léleman Valencia in volleyball as promotions of national leagues, Elche Handball’s cup victories and regular European qualification, and Benidorm Handball along with Alcodiam Roller Hockey pursuing European competition. Roig noted that these successes stem from the clubs themselves, while expressing enthusiasm about the potential to support them through the ongoing aid program and contribute to their continued achievements. The program is presented as timely in the face of the Covid-19 era, evolving from a social challenge into a vehicle for consolidation, professionalization, and sustainability within the clubs. The amount of final aid each club receives is determined by the overall budget and a set of variable parameters. These factors include the league level in which the club competes, the number of athletes at the grassroots level, whether teams field both genders, the presence of Valencian participants, and the acquisition of private sponsorships, among others. Among the eight sports represented, twelve teams are active at the elite level, seven maintain both male and female representations, and Atticgo Elche competes in European tournaments.
