A court in Rome has ruled against the online platform Rojadirecta, ordering it to compensate Mediaset for the commercial exploitation and infringement of audiovisual copyright that affected Mediaset’s rights. The total amount includes 529,579.50 euros in compensation plus 24,786 euros in interest and court costs. This figure was reported to the CNMV by Mediaset, the media group involved in the case.

The decision published on 21 July finds that Rojadirecta bears full responsibility for making Mediaset’s sports content publicly available illegally and on a systematic basis. Mediaset has licensed sports rights since 2010, and the court underscored that these rights were violated through unauthorized distribution on the platform.

Mediaset commented that this ruling represents another important step in the effort by rightsholders to defend their content against online piracy. The company reiterated its commitment to protecting its programming and ensuring that creators and distributors receive fair compensation for their rights. The case demonstrates how courts in Italy are addressing the online infringement of audiovisual material and signaling ongoing support for rights holders in digital markets.
