After two seasons, the Raya2 Expansión project ends its run in Liga Expansión MX

The Mexican club from Monterrey confirmed that its affiliate in the Expansión League will cease operations. The striping side announced that the Raya2 Expansión franchise will stop competing in the second division ahead of the upcoming consolidation of the silver division with the Under-20 category into a new Under-23 Expansión tier.

In a formal statement, the club explained that following the MX competition decision to eliminate the Under-20 category and merge it with the Expansion League, the Raya2 Expansión project would be closed. This move aligns with a broader restructuring aimed at streamlining development pathways for young players within the federation.

Like Pumas and Chivas, the Regiomontanos formed this squad to provide minutes for their youth players and better prepare them for the first team. Across its existence, the Nuevo León side played 69 matches, compiling 19 wins, 23 draws, and 27 losses.

The 2023 Closure marked the last season for the Raya2 squad in the Expansion Competition. Under the guidance of Nico Sánchez, the team reached the Liguilla via the rematch route but were ultimately eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Atlantic Ocean.
