On a Wednesday evening, the Ciutat d’Elx Convention Center hosts a special event: the autobiographical book presentation of Miguel Quirant, widely regarded as the legendary captain of Elche CF. The volume, authored by José Juan Pérez Maciá, traces Quirant’s long journey and storied experiences, placing him at the heart of Elche’s century-long football heritage.
This publication, produced under the auspices of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH), gathers thoughts from Pere Ibarra and aligns with the centennial initiatives led by the franciverde foundation. It marks just one more chapter in a series of commemorative efforts; previously, a conversation with journalist Santiago Gambín explored Elche’s centennial history, and a January photography exhibition celebrated pivotal moments along the city center streets as part of franciverde’s activities.
Miguel Quirant will name Gate 1 of Martínez Valero stadium
The UMH-focused profile centers on Miguel Quirant, born in 1935 in Santa Pola. He lived through epic and challenging periods, collaborating with César Rodríguez from the Third Division up to promotion to the First Division. He played 361 matches for Elche, a record that stood for years until it was surpassed by Nino. At 87, Quirant remains a symbol of vitality and a warm, supportive presence for the club. He attended the Centennial Gala, and Gate 1 at the Martínez Valero stadium bears his name. Last year, the City Council also dedicated a field at the Altabix Sports Center to his memory.
