Yuri Gavrilov, a renowned former footballer who wore the Spartak Moscow jersey and represented the USSR on the national team, is set to move to the Brain Institute. In this context, Gavrilov Jr. confirmed that Vasily Gavrilov, his father’s former actor son, is involved in the updates surrounding these plans.
According to Gavrilov Jr., Yuri Vasilievich is regaining strength. All necessary procedures are underway, and the current expectation is that he will be discharged on Friday, July 14, and subsequently transferred to the Brain Institute for continued care.
The ex-player had already been relocated to a rehabilitation facility on June 23 as part of his recovery process.
Earlier, on May 30, the Spartak veteran faced a critical moment and spent time in intensive care. The following day, Gavrilov Jr. shared that his father had suffered a stroke caused by an artery blockage in the neck and would remain in intensive care for several more days. By June 7, Yuri Gavrilov underwent a successful operation to address the carotid artery issue.
Gavrilov’s career with Spartak spanned from 1977 to 1985. He helped the team secure two USSR championships and, in 1983, finished as the league’s top scorer. On the international stage, Gavrilov earned a bronze medal at the Olympic Games with the USSR national team.
In 2001, Gavrilov took on the role of head coach for the national team of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, showcasing his experience beyond club football.
