Chile Cup Quarterfinals Set in Regional Phase; Key Matches and Path to Final

Universidad de Chile and U. Católica have already secured their opponents for the next round, while Colo Colo will learn theirs on Monday.

The quarterfinals of the regional stage of the 2023 Chile Cup are nearly set. Of the 16 league matches in this round, 13 have already been completed. Only the fixtures Trasandino-La Calera, Sport Rengo-Curicó Unido, and Lautaro de Buin-Barnechea remain to fill the final spots.

Defending champion Magallanes opened their title defense on solid ground on Sunday, April 9, with a win over Ferroviario Comercial. They will face Deportes Santa Cruz next, keeping alive the dream of reclaiming the long-standing domestic cup and potentially earning a berth in the 2024 Copa Libertadores as Chile 4.

Colo Colo, the most successful club in the competition with 13 titles, earned their ticket by eliminating Santiago City at the Monumental and now await the winner of Monday’s regional clash in Los Andes. Universidad de Chile advanced to the quarterfinals in the South Central Zone after a commanding 0-10 victory by Chimbarongo FC, setting up a showdown with O’Higgins. Católica, meanwhile, will meet Santiago Wanderers after defeating Deportes Colina on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate after extra time.
