Xeneize stands as Argentina’s club with more official titles won domestically outside the league championship than any other outfit. It is not only the team with the greatest haul of international trophies in Argentine football history but also the undisputed national cup king. Across all matches played outside the AFA League competition, Boca Juniors has collected more cups than any rival, cementing its status as a national treasure of the sport.

Following a 3-0 victory over Patronato in the 2023 Argentine Super Cup Final, Xeneize has accumulated 17 national cup trophies in its storied cabinet. The narrative below chronicles each national cup title achieved by the Boca Juniors side known for its Ribera roots and fierce rivalries.

COMPETITION CUP “JOCKEY CLUB”

The debut national cup in Boca’s history, this tournament gathered all Primera División clubs and some Rosarina League teams. In 1919, Boca defeated Gimnasia 2-0 and Eureka 2-1 before a 2-0 loss to Racing in the round of 16. After a pause prompted by disputes and league splits, the competition resumed with the remaining clubs. Boca overcame Estudiantes 3-0, Porteño 3-2, and Belgrano de Rosario 2-0 to reach the final, where Central was defeated 1-0 after extra time. Six years later, with Rosario clubs absent, Boca claimed the title again by beating Porteño 1-0 in the round of 16, routing Alvear 8-0, dispatching New Chicago 2-0 in the quarterfinals, El Porvenir 3-1 in the semifinal, and Argentinos 1-0 in the second final after a 1-1 draw in the first.

CUP DR. CARLOS IBARGUREN

  • Titles: 5 (1919, 1923, 1924, 1940, 1944)

Alongside Racing, Boca is one of the most successful clubs in the Ibarguren Cup, a one-match competition. In its early editions, Boca qualified as Primera División champions and faced the Rosarina League winner. In 1919 and 1923 they beat Rosario Central 1-0, in 1924 they defeated Belgrano 3-2, and in 1940 they toppled the rival 5-1. The 1944 edition marked Boca’s fifth Ibarguren crown, achieved in a format that pitted national champions against regional champions, culminating in a commanding performance that year.

STIMULUS CUP

Boca stands as one of only two clubs to win this tournament, held in 1920 and 1926 during the Copa América break. In each edition, First Division teams were split into two groups, and the two group winners met in the final. In the second edition, Boca topped its group and then beat Sportivo Balcarce 3–1 to secure the title.

BRITISH RACING CUP

Boca reached the final in all three editions of this competition funded by the British Embassy, yet only captured the crown in the last instalment. The format was a straight knockout among First Division teams. Boca’s path to the 1946 trophy included a 3-2 win over Vélez in the round of 16, a 4-1 triumph against Rosario Central in the quarterfinals, a 2-0 win over River Plate in the semifinals, and a 3-1 victory against San Lorenzo in the final.

ARGENTINE CUP

  • Titles: 4 (1969, 2011/12, 2014/15, 2019/21)

Boca emerged as the most successful team in this competition after defeating Talleres in the 2019/21 final. The first edition, held in 1969 with 32 teams, served as a qualifier for the Recopa Sudamericana. The knockout competition featured Boca eliminating Atlético Tucumán, Sarmiento de Santiago del Estero, Chacarita and Colón before a final win over Atlanta in two legs. When the tournament returned decades later, Boca reached the 2011/12 final after beating Racing in San Juan, then repeated the feat in 2014/15 with a dramatic 2-0 victory over Rosario Central in Córdoba, following wins over Huracán Las Heras, Banfield, Guaraní Antonio Franco, Defensa y Justicia, and Lanús in earlier rounds. The 2019/20 edition, eventually played in 2021 due to the pandemic, saw Boca defeat Talleres on penalties after a 0-0 draw, having previously disposed of Claypole, Defensores de Belgrano, River, Patronato and Argentinos Juniors on the road to glory.

ARGENTINE SUPER CUP

  • Titles: 2 (2018 and 2023)

Boca reached the Super Cup final five times, facing the Primera División champions and the National Cup winners, and claimed the trophy on two occasions. The 2018 edition, played in 2019, saw Boca defeat Rosario Central on penalties after a 0-0 regular time draw. The 2023 title came with a 3-0 win over Patronato at the Madre de Ciudades stadium.

PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE CUP

  • Titles: 2 (2020 and 2022)

When football resumed after the COVID-19 pause, the AFA introduced a new domestic cup to fill the schedule and slot the qualification paths for international tournaments. The inaugural edition, later renamed the Diego Maradona Cup, was won by Boca after a 5-3 penalties win over Banfield following a 1-1 draw. In 2022, Boca added another title, this time defeating Tigre 3-0 in the final.
