Luis Arbalejo leaves Lucentum after spending a year at the club
Asier Alonso, a Basque coach born in 1984 in Vitoria, has reached an agreement with the Lucentum Foundation for a new sporting leadership role. The Lucentina foundation will oversee sports management of the Alicante club for the next two seasons, with an option to extend for a third year. Alonso arrives from Real Betis Baloncesto, where he contributed to the club’s promotion from LEB Oro to the Endesa League during the 2018-19 campaign and has since continued within the Verdiblanca organization, integrated into its technical secretariat.
Previously, Alonso served as the sporting director of Araberri Basket between 2015 and 2018 before joining Sevillian basketball circles. His career path aligns with a period of collaboration with Lucentum’s coaching community, including connections to coach Antonio Pérez Caínzos during that earlier phase.
In assuming the sports management duties for the Alicante team, Alonso steps into a two-season mandate with the possibility of a third season. The goal is to drive strategic development, talent pathways, and competitive performance in the near term.
