Alicante Town Hall Approves Nearly 3 Million for Sports Facility Upgrades
The Alicante Town Hall board approved a comprehensive investment totaling 2,989,985 euros aimed at improving and maintaining the city’s sports facilities and their surroundings. A key allocation covers the management of artificial turf at sports complexes, awarded to Realfturf System SL for 1,284,451 euros. Two additional tenders were approved to enhance the urbanization around sports facilities, including the areas surrounding the Pitiu Rochel pavilion and the renovation of paddle tennis courts at Sports City, with parts of the project valued at 1,228,655 euros and 384,979 euros respectively.
The City Council plans to invest more than three million euros in the reform of the Pitiu Rochel pavilion and its surrounding spaces. The reform will be issued for tender with a budget of 1,228,655 euros and a seven-month implementation period. The project envisions remodeling the entire external area of the sports facility with a broad response plan. Improvements will expand access and create six new green spaces. Modern, efficient lighting will be installed, new sidewalks will be laid along pedestrian routes, street furniture will be replaced with prefabricated concrete benches and bins. The overall goal is a thorough modernization of this entire section as part of the Sports City complex.
The City Council will commence this redevelopment in tandem with the recent extensive renovation of the pavilion, backed by a 2,056,163-euro expenditure by the commercial entity Doalco. The work includes improved services and access, renewal of the central court’s pavement, facade enhancements, and skylight modernization to elevate the entire facility.
Rivering Courts
The adaptation and improvement of the paddle tennis courts at Sports City is being put out to tender with a basic budget of 384,979.32 euros and a three-month implementation period. The contract aims to carry out the works described in the project approved by the Board of Directors on 7 June 2022, with the purpose of a complete renovation of the four paddle tennis courts.
The project contemplates construction of a paddle tennis court complex with a metal structure, metal mesh enclosure, and tempered glass. In line with regulatory sports standards (NIDE2044 Pádel) and the rules of the Spanish Rowing Federation, a two-meter gap is planned between courts to serve as a corridor. A concrete perimeter around the tracks will be laid, along with shaded seating areas and new urban furniture to support the enhanced exterior design. The lighting network will be replaced, slopes will be closed, and the existing irrigation system updated to ensure adequate illumination for healthy sports activity.
Grass Pitches
The maintenance contract for artificial turf at sports facilities with Real Grass System is valued at 1,284,451 euros for a three-year term and covers maintenance for 14 artificial turf football fields and 13 artificial turf paddle tennis courts. In Lot 2 of the tender, Geamur has recently been responsible for the natural turf areas around the fields and facilities for 551,483 euros.
The contract includes the necessary agrochemical treatments and reseeding of up to 7,100 square meters of turf per year, with replacement of up to 500 square meters of lawn annually to address wear or external damage. It also covers the replacement of plant material, shrubs, and trees, the repair of irrigation networks, and garden equipment replacement to ensure a healthy, vibrant outdoor environment for sports and recreation.
