OpenAi said it would consider buying a Chrome browser if the Google court obliges to dispose of it. This was announced by Nick Terley, head of the Chatgpt department, who answered questions with the US Federal Court.
The initiative is associated with the current antimonopoly process, in which the Ministry of Justice requires the influence of Google. In 2023, the court found the company guilty of dominance on the search market, and it is now decided which measures will be taken. One of the proposals is the forced sale of Chrome, which would be the first such solution since the distribution of AT&T in the 1980s.
Terley emphasized that Chatgpt integration in Chrome will create ‘qualitatively new experience’ for users, simplifying access to and technologies. Now the browser is available for the expansion of the chatgpt, but the closer interaction can increase the functionality of the product. At the same time, OpenAI is confronted with difficulties in promoting its solutions on Android devices, where Google uses a financial benefit and conclude exclusive transactions according to Terley.

During the hearings it also appeared that in 2023 OpenAi tried to agree with Google about the use of its search technologies to improve chatgpt, but was refused. Now the neural network on Microsoft Bing -data depends on the quality of this data, according to Terley, “leaves much to be desired.”
Google, in turn, insists that the requirements of the authorities will negatively influence users and weaken the American position in the technological breed. If Chrome is offered for sale, OpenAi can be confronted with competition from other companies that are interested in acquiring a browser.
Experts note that Chrome OpenAI will not only give access to billions of users, but also the possibility to influence the development of II services that will strengthen its position in confrontation with Google and Microsoft. However, the result of the case remains unclear – the court can limit itself to fewer radical measures, such as a change in advertising practices or partnership conditions.
