A tragedy occurred in Norway – 19-year-old skier Hana Mazi Yamnik died in an accident after falling under the wheels of a truck in a tunnel. The seriously injured victim was taken by helicopter to the university hospital in Stavanger, but doctors were unable to save his life.

The athlete flew to Norway as part of the Slovenian national team and participated in the Blink sports festival, after which he remained in the northern country to train under the guidance of the national team coach, the famous Norwegian skier Ola Vigen Hettestad.

On the morning of August 11, he worked on a public road near the town of Sannes, but after entering a tunnel he collided with a truck, which led to a tragic outcome.

The driver of the car was immediately detained by the police, but he did not plead guilty to negligent driving. Blood tests were taken from him for the presence of alcohol or drugs in him, but the results are currently unknown to the public.

“She takes the incident very seriously and constantly thinks about the girl who lost her life, the survivors and who she should be more concerned with,” the defendant’s lawyer said in a statement to the press.

He also talked about the girl’s involvement in another car incident, which closed her sight and had fatal consequences. At the same time, the driver of the second vehicle was found and questioned by the police.

“Hana, you will forever remain in our memory. “We will miss you very much,” said the official statement from the Slovenian Ski Federation. At the same time, it is reported that psychologists are already working with other members of the Slovenian team on the case.

“My heart tightened when I found out what had happened and remembered how hard I had trained myself on public roads. What happened was an incredible tragedy.

“I sympathize with Hana’s teammates, coaches and service staff, her family and everyone around her,” said Teresa Johaug, four-time Norwegian Olympic champion.

Another titled skier from this country, four-time world champion Emil Iversen, said: “It’s a terrible story. It’s so pointless and undeserved. It’s a scary wake-up call for anyone who trains on busy roads.”

A well-known commentator of the Norwegian television channel NRK Andreas Stabrun described his death as “terrible”.

“It’s incredibly tragic that a young girl’s life was shortened like this,” she told commentator Dagbladet. “This death is extremely gruesome and it’s impossible to imagine how Hana’s closest relative is feeling right now. This tragedy came as a shock to everyone who loves to ski.”
