The most titled coach in the history of Spartak, Oleg Romantsev, admitted that he sees no reason to discuss the transfer of Russian forward Alexander Sobolev from the capital club to Zenit St. Petersburg. His words are guiding “Sports Express”.
“As they say, the flag is in his hands. I must admit that I do not really believe that Alexander is really eager to come to St. Petersburg, because I do not know the real reasons. And they can be very different: a more profitable contract, a desire to test himself in a new club, a desire to prove to someone that he is a great player,” Romantsev said.
Sobolev’s transfer from Spartak to Zenit was officially announced on August 30.
Sobolev was removed from Spartak’s starting lineup after the first round match of the current Russian Premier League against Orenburg (0:2). According to media reports, he told head coach Dejan Stankovic that he wanted to leave. Since then, the forward has not appeared on the field.
The forward has been playing for Spartak since 2020. In total, he played in 139 matches for the team, scoring 58 goals and making 32 assists. His contract with the club lasted until the summer of 2026. In the completed season of the Russian Championship, Sobolev played 27 matches and scored five goals.
