Russian swimmer surprised by poor results at Olympic Games 14:11

World record-holding Russian swimmer Evgenia Chikunova said she was surprised by some poor results at the 2024 Olympics. Some winning times were significantly lower than expected. The athlete was quoted as saying “Match TV”.

“I was really surprised by the results at the end of some of the finals. Martinenghi’s result in the 100-meter breaststroke… He didn’t even swim for the International Master of Sports in Russia, and this is the final of the Olympics,” Chikunova said.

At the 2024 Olympics, Italian Nicolo Martinenghi showed a time of 59.03 seconds in the 100-meter breaststroke. The MSMK standard in Russia is 59.02.

Chikunova swam faster in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Russian Cup final than the Olympic Games winner Tatyana Smith from South Africa at this distance. Thanks to this, the Russian athlete will receive two million rubles. It is known that such payments are given to those who exceed the result of the Olympic winner.
