The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear Russia’s appeal against being deprived of gold medals at the Olympic figure skating team tournament on June 12. International Skating Union (ISU) Advisor Michael Gistlinger spoke on this subject. His words are quoted RIA News.
“The appeal will be heard tonight Las Vegas time. ISU is optimistic about this because our decision made sense,” Gistlinger said.
On January 29, 2024, CAS found Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva guilty of doping and disqualified the athlete. He will not be able to compete in tournaments until December 2025. In addition to the banned trimetazidine, three permitted substances were found in the skater’s blood. These are more than 50 supplements with ecdysterone, hypoxene and L-carnitine.
The figure skater was deprived of the gold medal of the Russian and European Championships in the team tournament, as well as the gold medal of the Olympic Games in Beijing. The Russian team won the bronze medal, the USA the gold medal and Japan the silver medal.
