Valery Ovchinnikov, former head coach of Lokomotiv Nizhny Novgorod, spoke in favor of tightening the foreign player limit in the Russian Premier League (RPL) legal betting.
“In RPL, there must be a maximum of five foreigners on the field. There are four players playing in the First League, this is still normal. But the fewer foreigners, the better,” Ovchinnikov said.
There can now be a maximum of 13 foreigners in the RPL season application. A maximum of eight foreign players can enter the field.
In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
The Russians missed the 2022 World Cup play-offs and will also miss the upcoming European Championships.
The 22nd round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) starts with the Dinamo – Rostov match on Friday, March 29. The match will be played at the capital’s VTB Arena and will start at 19.30 Moscow time.
