Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina spoke about the adaptation of Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin, who changed their citizenship from Russian to Georgian. His words were quoted “Match TV”.
“It’s hard to say, but how much time do they need to adapt? Georgia is such a prominent state and does it need a special adaptation? Everyone understands that their transition is a forced decision. I don’t see them as a promising couple. It is interesting to listen to his mother and learn her position; all her students sit at home and her daughter goes on stage,” Rodnina said.
After the Beijing Olympics, Davis and Smolkin lived and trained in the United States. The couple changed their citizenship in the summer of 2023. Now athletes represent the Georgian national team. They won the Ice Dance International tournament held in Lake Placid, USA, at the beginning of August.
Davis is the daughter of famous Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze.
In January 2024, Davis and Smolkin will participate in the European Figure Skating Championships in Kaunas (Lithuania).
Previously Tarasova statedThat Davis and Smolkin are nothing but themselves.
