Brazilian Alex Pereira was stronger than Czech Jiri Prochazka in the main fight of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 295 tournament in New York for the promotion’s light heavyweight title.
The fight took place on the Madison Square Garden grounds, lasted less than two rounds and ended with an early victory for the 36-year-old South American. The first round was a back-and-forth fight, with both fighters spending most of the time on their feet. In the second round, 31-year-old Prochazka traded but missed the shot to the left side and then found himself on the canvas. Pereira threw a series of punches to his opponent’s head, forcing the referee to stop the fight early.
For Prochazka, this defeat was the fourth in his professional career. In total, the 31-year-old Czech fighter had 34 fights, winning 29 of them, while another fight ended in a draw.
Alex Pereira got his ninth win in 11 matches, and his record after this fight was 9-2-0.
