Carrera worked at Spartak from 2016 to 2018, first as Dmitry Alenichev’s assistant, then replaced him as head coach. He is the first foreign specialist in the history of the club who managed to win the gold medal at the Russian Championship in his first season.
In 2017, the Italian led Spartak to the championship title and Super Cup victory. In 2018, the capital club, led by an Italian specialist, finished third in the rankings.
