Silver medalist of the 2002 Olympic Games Ilya Averbukh announced the start of his coaching career in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“I began to engage in quite active coaching for myself – Elena Maslennikova (a well-known choreographer, co-author of Averbukh’s ice projects since 2006 – socialbites.ca).
We opened an ice dance school based on the inspiration skating rink, this is the skating rink of the Nina Mikhailovna Moser school.
We are now recruiting kids for junior ice dancing and I am starting to coach in earnest which will probably be a discovery for many.
Of course, this should not affect my projects and production in any way. I emphasize once again that I do not study alone in this school – there is also Elena Maslennikova. But yes, there will no longer be supervision on my part, it will be a full-fledged coaching job,” Averbukh said.
The choreographer-producer also said what show he’s currently working on:
“Training starts early – at 8:00 am. I go to work as a coach from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM for each morning session, and then I get another regular job.
Of course, coaching does not require only two hours a day, but now I work in this mode, ”Averbukh summarized.
Former skater Katarina Gerboldt, who competes in the women’s singles, said that Averbukh is a versatile and very ideological person and will be successful.
“He has very little experience in coaching. They opened a school with Irina Lobacheva. They started working together.
It works a lot and successfully in the Ice Age. Averbukh is a versatile and very ideological person.
Averbukh said in an interview with us that he only trains for two hours in the morning – from 8 to 10, so how long would coaching development take? This question is difficult to answer. Each coach sets his own goals. Someone needs an hour and someone needs ten hours,” said Gerboldt.
Celebrity trainer Lyudmila Velikova considers this great news.
“This is the first time I’ve heard this from you. That’s good. Talented man, what could be better?! He only trains two hours a day, so how long will it take for coaching improvement? And who knows him? It seems to me that I’ve had such a rise as an athlete.” then he is already a coach. He is a great choreographer. Now they will fall for him, ”said Velikova.
Coach Alexei Mishin admitted that he had a hard time answering the question about Averbukh’s managerial tendencies.
“We have a world-class expert ahead of us,” he added.
Honored coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova said that Averbukh will succeed in her coaching career.
“He is successful everywhere because he is a talented person.
What advice can you give? Advice is given when asked. And he did not ask me for advice – he is doing the right thing, ”she said in an interview with Championship.
He also believes in the success of Averbukh and Olympic medalist Alexander Zhulin.
“A good specialist and a very good choreographer – they will all fit together. The most important thing is that when Averbukh works with athletes, they have a place to perform, ”says Zulin Championship.
Olympic champion Tatyana Navka supported Averbukh’s decision, saying in an interview with RIA Novosti that competition is the engine of progress.
Honored coach of Russia Inna Goncharenko sought the condition that Averbukh would be successful as a coach.
“If he’s as passionate and as invested in staging the show as he is, why not? And their shows are extraordinary, very interesting, very well executed, with interesting ideas. He has a wealth of experience in organizing very successful programs: they always have interesting findings that are meaningful and with a certain flavor,” he said.
