Major scandal at the World Cup in Qatar: A football legend kicks a blogger in the head

Samuel Eto’o, a well-known football player in the past and now president of the Cameroon Football Federation, who played for Anji Makhachkala throughout his career, has signed another scandal.

Cameroon national team failed to qualify from the group at the World Cup held in Qatar. In their first match, “Indomitable Lions” lost to Switzerland (0:1), left Serbia in the second round (3:3) and then even beat Brazil (1:0), but that was only enough for third place in the foursome.

However, Eto’o did not leave Qatar, especially since he is the official ambassador of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

The incident occurred after the 1/8 final match (4:1) between Brazil and South Korea ended. Eto’o was present in the stands and at the end of the match, accompanied by security guards, he walked from the stadium to the car, posed for photos with the fans and answered journalists’ questions.

One of them was the well-known Algerian blogger Said Mamuni (Sadouni SM). It was his questions that angered Eto’o.

As a result, the most famous Cameroonian football player, who had long since disappeared from the crowd, returned and rushed to the blogger, provoking him into a fight. Between the men, Eto’o’s defensive rep paused, but continued to make moves towards his opponent.

At one point, another Cameroonian security guard rushed to the journalist and took a video camera from him that recorded what was happening. As Mamuni bent over to retrieve the device, Eto’o caught the same moment and ran to the blogger and kicked him in the face.

Sadouni SM fell and the head of the Cameroon Football Federation was dragged away from him. As a result, everyone dispersed and the Algerian stayed by the camera and, holding his face, went to the Qatari police station, where he made a statement against Eto’o.

Mamuni later said that he had received several scratches in this incident and now his jaw hurts.

It was also Mamuni who insulted Eto’o, according to Actu Cameroon, and clashed with charges of bribing a referee for his participation in the World Cup in the play-offs.

Very violent selection in the African region. For Cameroon to qualify for the World Cup, they first needed to win a very tough group with Mozambique, Malawi and most importantly Ivory Coast, with the “indomitable lions” just two points ahead.

However, after that, the ten winners of the sub-groups of the African selection were divided into five pairs by drawing lots, and the five national teams that should go to Qatar were determined in the two-game butt matches.

Cameroon received another continental mount – Algeria. And at home, Rigobert Song’s wards lost with a score of 0: 1 due to Slimani’s goal. However, in the away game in regular time, the mirror score was determined by Erik-Maxim Shupo-Moting.

Although Ahmed Touba seemed to be giving tickets to Algeria and Qatar in the 118th minute in extra time, Gambian referee Bakary Gassama gave the teams a total of four minutes to play again and Carl Toko-Ekambi carried the Cameroonians to the World in the final minutes. So in Algeria they suspect that the Cameroon federation and even Eto’o personally bribed the same Gambian referee, but it should be noted that after scoring the goal, the Algerian football players began to shamelessly prolong the time and kill the game.

One way or another, during my year as Federation president (the contract was signed for four years), scandals have become synonymous with Eto’o. He first got into the situation by inviting the families of the seven victims who died in the stadium stampede to the team’s practice during the host African Cup, and then in a motivational speech he compared football to war.

At the same tournament, Cameroon was suspected of falsifying coronavirus tests, which came out completely negative for the “indomitable lions”, which cannot be said about their rivals. This was actually confirmed and eventually the Football Association was even fined.

Third place in the African Cup did not suit Eto’o, and after the tournament he came into conflict with the country’s sports minister, who publicly supported Portuguese head coach António Conceição.

Eto’o said it was up to him to decide whether to continue or terminate cooperation with an expert. He did not meet the deadline set by himself, but nevertheless the coach was fired and was replaced by another legend of Cameroonian football, Rigobert Song. Rumor has it that this appointment was demoted from the very top of the country – from the President of Cameroon Paul Biya.

After that, there was a strange motivational speech for the team, already under Song, after the winning match, in which Eto’o did not suit the football team. Moreover, Song always kept quiet and did not say a word, and then the Federation posted Eto’o’s speech on social networks.

Eto’o reorganized the national championship in a very unsuccessful way, and just before the World Cup, he unilaterally terminated his contract with equipment supplier Le Coq Sportif and signed a deal with One All Sports, which had never worked in football before.
