Russian forward “Pittsburgh Penguins” Evgeni Malkin was recognized as the first star of the game of the day in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The game against the Chicago Blackhawks (5:3) was the 1,000th game of the regular season for the 36-year-old hockey player. In this game, Malkin was marked with an abandoned disk.
US female forward Hilary Knight was recognized as the second star of the day by the NHL, who scored 3 (2+1) points (4:2) in the friendly match against Canada.
The third star was named Columbus Blue Jackets’ Russian goalkeeper Daniil Tarasov, who saved 47 of 50 shots (5:3) in the game against the Florida Panthers, a new season record among league rookies.

The record holder for the number of matches in the NHL among Russians is Alexei Kovalev, who played 1316 meetings. Second place is taken by Sergey Gonchar (1301), third is Alexander Ovechkin (1294), captain of the Washington Capitals.
Malkin moved to Pittsburgh in 2006. He won the Stanley Cup three times (2006, 2010 and 2014) as part of the team. He signed a new contract with the Penguins on July 13. The deal will be signed for four years, during which time Malkin will earn $24.4 million.
