“The game is over. I will not become the vice president of Silesia. This is the account of how Wrocław authorities attempted to silence and corrupt an independent journalist, namely me,” said Marcin Torz, a reporter for Super Express, on social media.
The journalist affirms that the whole sequence of events reads almost unbelievable.
In August, he was approached with a tempting offer from a senior official to assume the role of vice-president of an Ekstraklasa club for a monthly remuneration of 15,000 PLN. The description of the idea seemed farcical and shocking to him. He noted that he possessed no experience in managing a football club or any business venture, admitting no previous knowledge in such areas. He is, after all, a journalist. He declined the offer, yet the episode prompted him to question how far the authorities in Wrocław would go to remove him from the media sphere, especially after he had published findings about President Jacek Sutryk’s alleged scandals.
– reports Torz.
He recalls concerns about the purchase of a house belonging to the chairman of a club, a project subsidized by the city, and the use of program councils as tools to secure financial gains for associates. He mentions appointments of officials and trusted individuals to supervisory boards, as well as other controversies at TBS, the city zoo, and various municipal institutions.
He waited to see how the situation would unfold and decided to engage in this perceived game. The demands grew more absurd and explicit, signaling what those in power might resort to in order to silence a journalist who had exposed troubling issues.
– emphasizes Marcin Torz.
Salary in case of exclusion from the profession?
The reporter lists the compensation that was proposed.
The initial offer was described as modest: 15,000 PLN net per month. He remained silent for several days, and then questions about his take on the proposal were raised (screenshot evidence noted in the narrative). The replies, however, did not deter the officials—soon a much larger figure was on the table. A GIANT new offer appeared: 34,000 PLN gross, roughly 27,000 PLN per month. The message was bluntly commercial—“We want you on our side,” he recalls.
– reports Torz.
The journalist has already signaled that he will unveil further details in this ongoing matter.
What followed indicated that such sums represented only the opening move in a broader strategy. Much more would unfold, the account hinted, with further revelations to come in subsequent installments.
