Who Will Lead Poland After the Elections? Public Opinion and Uncertainty

Forty percent of respondents remain undecided about who will lead Poland after the elections, while 38 percent expect PiS to prevail and 22 percent favor the Civic Platform, according to a poll conducted by Pollster Research Institute for Super Express and published in the newspaper’s Wednesday edition.

Who will rule after the elections?

In the survey, when asked, “Who do you think will govern after the election?” 38 percent pointed to Law and Justice, 22 percent named the Civic Platform, and 40 percent said it would be someone else altogether. The split reveals a notable degree of uncertainty alongside a clear preference for PiS and a smaller but steady expectation for the Civic Platform, with a sizable share unsure about the outcome.

A sociologist from the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Henryk Domański, noted that the poll’s results align closely with party-specific popularity measures, suggesting the public’s perception of leadership after the vote mirrors the broader support trends observed for individual parties.

The data imply that while PiS maintains a lead in public sentiment about governance, there is a meaningful portion of the electorate that does not align with a specific party or leadership team. This nonaligned segment could prove pivotal in close races, especially in swing regions where turnout and local factors might tilt the balance in unforeseen ways, influencing coalition dynamics and post-election governance plans.

The poll was conducted on April 18–19 among a sample of 1,117 adult Poles, providing a snapshot of opinions at that time. The results reflect attitudes during a period of ongoing political discourse and discussion about party strategies, leadership traits, and the potential for cross-party cooperation in the event of a hung or divided parliament.
