Uzbekistan President to Visit Moscow in October for CIS Summit
The press office of Uzbekistan’s president announced that Shavkat Mirziyoyev will travel to Moscow in early October for a working visit. The trip is scheduled for October 7 and 8 and centers on his participation in the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Interfax reported that the gathering will include discussions about how member states cooperate within the CIS framework. It is expected that leaders will decide the presidency of the Commonwealth for the coming year. They will also sign decisions naming the CIS cultural capitals for the next three years and approve amendments to several documents governing cooperation in law and security.
Mirziyoyev’s most recent trip to Moscow took place on May 8. On that occasion he attended the Eurasian Economic Union summit and participated in ceremonial events honoring the 79th anniversary of the victory. The October trip continues Uzbekistan’s pattern of high level engagement with Russia and the wider regional community.
Observers note that October’s schedule reflects ongoing regional diplomacy with Central Asian partners. The visit will facilitate dialogue among neighboring states about integration, security, and cultural exchange within the CIS and related platforms.
Separately, a case involving a student beating in Uzbekistan drew international attention and sparked discussion in diplomatic and media circles.
Together these developments illustrate Uzbekistan’s active role in regional diplomacy and its ongoing work to strengthen multilateral ties across the CIS and adjacent forums.
