The United States condemned Israeli strikes on Lebanese army targets, noting that attacks have occurred more than 30 times since October 7, when tensions in the Middle East began rising. This stance was reported by CNN, which cited multiple sources familiar with the matter.
CNN reported that Israel struck Lebanese army positions on more than 34 occasions, according to those sources.
A senior U.S. official said the strikes targeted Hezbollah positions, while also noting the difficulty in determining whether other targets were involved due to possible gaps in command and control within the Israeli forces.
The statement included that the Biden administration conveyed to Israel that such strikes are unacceptable.
CNN’s source added that the Lebanese army enjoys strong public support, and from Washington’s viewpoint, it could play a crucial role in maintaining peace between Tel Aviv and Beirut.
The IDF spokesperson stated that damage to other units was not intentional.
On December 11, Israel reported that Lebanon fired a missile into Israeli territory, with Israeli air defenses intercepting six missiles. Defense Forces then launched artillery against the launch sites.
Earlier, there were warnings that Hezbollah’s entry into the conflict could be a fatal misstep for Israel.
Israel had previously announced milestones in its campaign against Hamas.
