February Trust Rankings in Polish Politics

In February, Poland’s political figures were ranked by trust, with President Andrzej Duda, Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki leading the confidence list, according to a CBOS survey. The leaders facing the greatest mistrust were Donald Tusk, head of the Civic Platform, and Jarosław Kaczyński, president of Law and Justice.

President Duda as the Most Trusted Leader

President Andrzej Duda remains the most trusted politician in February, with 56% of respondents expressing confidence in him, up 2 percentage points from the previous month. About 32% distrust the president, a decline of 3 points.

Second place goes to Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, trusted by 42% of respondents in February, a rise of 5 points. He is distrusted by 29% of respondents, down 5 points.

Rafał Trzaskowski, the deputy leader of the Civic Platform and Warsaw’s mayor, and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki each sit at 41% trust. Trzaskowski’s trust rose by 1 point, while 40% of respondents do not trust him, up 3 points. Morawiecki’s trust increased by 3 points, but 46% do not trust him, a decrease of 4 points.

Leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, is trusted by 36% of respondents, with no change from the previous measurement. Distrust stands at 37% (also unchanged).

Head of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, enjoys 35% trust, up 1 point. In February, 30% distrust him, an increase of 3 points.

Better Results Among PiS Politicians

In February, PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński saw an improvement in his ratings, with 35% of respondents expressing trust, up 5 points. At the same time, 53% do not trust him, down 4 points.

Sejm Marshal Elżbieta Witek is trusted by 32% of voters, up 3 points, while 27% distrust her, down 7 points.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski is trusted by 30% of respondents, up 1 point, and 31% distrust him, down 3 points.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Zbigniew Ziobro has 30% trust (up 4 points) and 52% distrust (down 4 points).

Distrust Focus: Donald Tusk

Donald Tusk, president of the Civic Platform, is trusted by 30% of respondents, with no change, while 56% distrust him, up 2 points since January.

New Left co-chair Robert Biedroń has 28% trust, and 42% distrust him.

Minister Piotr Gliński, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and National Heritage, earns 27% confidence (up 2 points) and 28% distrust (up 1 point).

Krzysztof Bosak of the Confederation WiN is trusted by 27% of respondents (up 1 point), with 36% distrustful (up 2 points).

Zbigniew Rau, head of the Polish diplomacy, is trusted by 26% of respondents (up 4 points), while 16% distrust him. A notable 45% do not know the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Jacek Sasin, deputy prime minister and head of MAP, is trusted by 24% (up 2 points), with 47% distrustful (no change).

Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki is trusted by 22% (down 2 points), and 39% do not trust him (up 3 points).

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Henryk Kowalczyk has 21% trust (up 2 points) and 20% distrust (no change). A striking 45% do not know the minister.

Methodology and Sample

The study was conducted using a mixed-mode approach on a representative sample of adult residents of Poland drawn from the PESEL registry. Respondents chose one of three methods: direct interview (CAPI), telephone interview after contact with CBOS, or a self-administered online survey (CAWI). In all cases the questionnaire used the same set of questions and structure. The February survey ran from 6 to 19 and included 982 people, with 58.4% interviewed via CAPI, 25.9% via CATI, and 15.7% via CAWI. [CBOS, February 2024]
