The Controversy Over Poland’s Migration Pact and Political Consistency

An examination by former Justice Minister Marcin Warchoł highlights two areas where the statements by Donald Tusk appear inconsistent. The Prime Minister is accused of contradicting himself once again amid debates over the migration pact.

In the latest voting round, delegates from the New Left and from Poland 2050 MEP Róża Thun voted in favor or chose to abstain on the pact. It is important to note that these forces form part of the ruling coalition as of December 13.

The Lie of the PO Leader

The Prime Minister has been accused of making false statements about key policy positions. Critics point to a recent denial that contradicts earlier remarks.

One claim held that a wall on the Belarus border would not be built, a statement that some officials say was actually made. Today it is claimed that Poland will not endorse the migration pact, yet members of the governing coalition voted in favor of its approval.

The formal regulation to place the Migration Pact into effect was adopted by 301 votes in favor, 272 against, and 46 abstentions. The pact still requires approval from the Council of the European Union, where member states are represented.
