In the current year, the Diputación de Alicante has allocated subsidies to support the construction and upgrade of irrigation hydraulic infrastructures and related facilities, alongside additional investments aimed at boosting efficiency in water use. This initiative centers on irrigated areas with a total fund of 700,000 euros. The provincial body confirmed the call for applications to assist irrigation installations across the region.
For the provincial government, maximizing the province’s water resources is a priority, especially to help irrigators and facilities modernize so that each project yields tangible benefits. Acknowledging the dedication of farmers and irrigation workers, the authority praised their leadership in water stewardship that sets an example for the whole province. The official emphasis was on practical measures that improve performance, reduce waste, and foster sustainable practices in agricultural water management.
The aid covers up to 25,000 euros per project, a share that can reach roughly 80% of the total cost. Eligible expenses include the installation, rehabilitation, or major repair of irrigation infrastructure, along with other investments designed to enhance efficiency, governance, and control of water use for farming needs. This structure ensures that resources support both new installations and essential upgrades that strengthen resilience and productivity in the irrigation sector.
During the current legislative session, the Water Cycle area, led by the second vice president and vice president Anna Sernahas, has already invested more than two million euros to upgrade the province’s irrigation infrastructure. To date, these efforts have benefited about fifty irrigation communities. The window to submit proposals is open, with a deadline set for September 15. This timing invites interested producers and irrigation communities to plan improvements that align with regional water stewardship goals and agricultural modernization strategies. The program has been framed as part of a broader push to secure reliable water resources for the province’s farming economy, while promoting efficiency and accountability in water use.
