German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed support for ongoing international talks aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis, sharing his views with the television channel ZDF.
He argued that continuing the negotiations makes sense, noting that they increase pressure on Russia to recognize that its current course is wrong and that a withdrawal of troops is necessary for any chance at peace.
Earlier reports indicated that the European Union does not regard China’s role in the Jeddah Ukraine meeting as a decisive change in the overall dynamics.
Prior to that, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to China Central Television, reiterated China’s independent stance on Ukraine in discussions with Russian officials.
Bloomberg reported that France hopes the next round of talks on a peaceful Ukraine solution can take place before the G20 summit in India on September 9-10.
On August 6, the Jeddah talks on resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict concluded, with Kiev describing the discussions as a practical step toward implementing the peace initiatives proposed by Ukraine. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pledged at the meeting to address the issues raised and work toward constructive outcomes.
