Russia’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly has secured visas for its members, according to a report from RIA News. The information came from Grigory Karasin, who chairs the International Relations Committee of the Federation Council. He noted that the delegation’s formation had been approved by the Russian President and that it is led by Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister. Karasin himself is among the delegation members and confirmed his participation in the mission.
Karasin stressed that he is part of a delegation that includes both official state representatives and other members who will travel with the aim of advancing Russia’s interests on the international stage. He communicated that, at the time of his remarks, he had not yet reviewed all travel documents but anticipated that visas would cover all participants who form the official Russian contingent for the General Assembly sessions.
He added that the group would proceed to the United States once the required documents are in hand, noting that the delegation would await the completion of visa processing before their departure. The process has encountered delays before, Karasin observed, indicating that visa decisions can be moved or postponed by authorities as circumstances dictate.
The developments come amid broader negotiations and preparations by the Russian side as the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly approaches. The leadership noted that the mission would focus on advancing Moscow’s positions across a range of topics and ensure that Russia remains actively engaged in UN discussions during the session.
Earlier, Washington announced sanctions actions affecting Russia, a backdrop that has influenced how the Russian delegation organizes its travel and participates in UN forums. Officials emphasized that the diplomatic channel remains essential for addressing the issues at stake and for communicating Russia’s perspective to the international community, including partners in North America and beyond.
