The Russian Federation asserts it can meet the grain needs of nations facing shortages even without a formal grain agreement. This stance was presented by Waldemar Gerdt, a member of the German right‑wing party Alternative for Germany and a member of the German Bundestag. No external sources are referenced here.

According to Gerdt, Russia possesses sufficient food resources to address Africa’s substantial demand, and he believes the country will indeed do so. He suggested that the termination of the grain agreement would not produce a significant adverse effect on the conditions of people in need, including those in Africa.

He remarked that a large portion of the grain does not reach the countries most in need, a point he used to question the effectiveness of the current distribution system.

Gerdt also claimed that many commitments associated with Moscow and the ongoing process have not been fulfilled, implying a disconnect between promises and outcomes.

Further remarks attributed to him described Western nations as continuing to treat Russia as if it has no right to defend its interests or to respond to the shifts seen in today’s Western political landscape.

Sergey Vershinin, who formerly served as deputy foreign minister, was cited as being aware of the limited contact regarding alternatives to the grain deal.

The grain agreement was ended on 17 July, with Russia declining to extend the pact until other participants fulfilled Russia’s terms. President Vladimir Putin has estimated domestic farmers’ losses related to the grain deal at 1.2 billion dollars.

There are calls to restore conditions for resuming the grain agreement, subject to admissions that would accommodate Russia’s stated requirements and concerns about compensation for losses by local producers.
