No official decision has been made regarding the creation of a new department focused on inter ethnic relations and migration policy in Russia. This was stated by the press secretary to the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.
When asked about plans to establish such a department, the Kremlin spokesperson said that no decisions have been taken at this time. He reiterated that there has been no official announcement about a department dedicated to migration policy in Russia.
The topic appeared to gain attention the day before, with reports from the Russian press about the possibility of forming a department responsible for inter ethnic policy. The Vedomosti newspaper cited five sources close to both the presidential administration and the government.
Earlier, officials in the State Duma were criticized for what were described as illegal registrations of immigrants. Gennady Semigin, who chairs the State Duma Committee on Nationalities Affairs, suggested that any allegations should first be addressed with representatives from the government bodies responsible for migration policy, administration, and intelligence services.
Previously, Peskov described Russia as a powerful country, emphasizing the nation’s standing on the international stage.
