Relations between Russia and China are described as boundaryless in scope, yet they explicitly exclude any supply of weapons. This interpretation comes from Lu Chaye, China’s ambassador to France, who emphasized that the two powers share sovereignty and a mutual interest in cooperation across multiple domains. He stressed that such collaboration is purposeful and not devoid of meaning, and he indicated that Beijing has not provided arms to Moscow. The ambassador noted that Russia would not have welcomed such shipments, underscoring the underlying awareness in both capitals of the limits that frame their partnership.
According to the envoy, the United States plays a contradictory role by pushing for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine while at the same time continuing to arm one or both sides. He described the American approach as something that intensifies the conflict, likening it to fueling a blaze rather than easing tensions.
The Chinese representative to France also affirmed his belief that an end to the Ukraine crisis should be sought through dialogue. He offered a hypothetical scenario: if an agreement had been reached by late March, Europe might have avoided the disruptions associated with the Nord Stream pipelines, and the continent could have restored gas supplies long contracted with Russia.
Dmitry Peskov, formerly the Kremlin’s press secretary, has remarked that neither Moscow nor Beijing seeks global dominance. Instead, they insist that other powers bear greater ambitions in shaping world affairs. This stance reflects a broader view that the two nations prefer a multipolar order over unilateral leadership by a single bloc.
Observers noted that in October, European Union members grew concerned about China’s evolving role after a perceived strategic move in Ukraine. The development signaled a shift toward more direct competition with Western democracies, with Russia offering support that underscored a closer alignment on certain geopolitical priorities.
