VTB has introduced tipping through Mir Pay, enabling customers to express gratitude on VTB.tips using the Mir card, according to the bank’s press service. This update expands Mir Pay beyond in-person shopping, allowing both offline and online payments to fund tips.

To leave a tip with Mir Pay, users simply scan the QR code, enter the desired amount on the payment page, and press the Mir Pay button. On Android devices, the Mir Pay app must be installed to connect the Mir card for the transaction.

Nikita Chugunov, senior vice president and head of the Digital Business Department at VTB, noted that VTB.Tip was launched last year and has become a popular option in the HoReCa sector, with more than 200,000 users to date. He explained that the bank first rolled out transfers via SBP, then integrated Yandex.Pay, and now is among the early market entrants to add Mir Pay to its contactless payment lineup.

Chugunov highlighted the importance of Mir Pay at a time when foreign payment services are being withdrawn from Russia for contactless payments. He stressed that Mir Pay is increasingly relevant for Russian consumers and expects broad demand as more users seek simple, fast ways to tip for services. The transfer mechanism through Mir Pay requires no extra steps and saves time in thanking service providers, according to the executive.

The contactless tipping feature, branded “VTB Tip,” first appeared in the Russian market last autumn. Through VTB.Tipping, tips can be gathered for individuals or teams. To enable the service, customers can submit a request on the vtb.tips website or install the mobile application described as Tip the card using a QR code, which guides users through the setup and usage.

In summary, the rollout of Mir Pay tipping marks a strategic expansion of VTB’s digital payments ecosystem. By enabling online tipping via Mir Pay, the bank reinforces its commitment to convenient, fast, and secure gratitude gestures for hospitality and service sectors, while aligning with a broader shift toward card-based digital tipping across the country. This integration positions VTB as a forward-looking participant in the evolving payments landscape, offering a streamlined experience for diners, customers, and service teams alike, and aligns with ongoing consumer demand for seamless mobile-first payment options according to sources from the bank’s press service and company leadership.
