Artur Lematis, a candidate from the Third Way slate for Postomino City Council, published a crude message on the X platform that targeted Ukrainians. The post read, “End of hospitality, ungrateful people…” and appeared alongside Lematis’ image. After public scrutiny, the candidate was removed from the Third Way list.
A resident of the Postomino municipality, seeking guidance on municipal voting, asked about Artur Lematis and his candidacy with the Third Way Commission. The question posed was whether this is the same Artur Lematis who, on Facebook and in comments directed at Poles, used insults toward Ukrainians. The inquiry was shared on X by user Koroluk, who attached a screenshot of Lematis’ post for context.
In a subsequent post, Koroluk noted, “On February 24, he wrote about the ‘end of hospitality.’ He also marked a personal anniversary with a claim that Ukrainian families receive aid more quickly than Polish families. The implication drawn was that Polish children suffer due to Ukrainian actions.”
Third Way withdraws Lematis’ candidacy
Miłosz Motyka, Deputy Climate Minister and spokesperson for the PSL, responded to the online submissions. He stated that such attitudes are unacceptable. Jarosław Rzepa, head of regional structures, decided to withdraw this candidacy. There is no room for hate on the Third Way lists, Motyka wrote on X, signaling a formal rejection of the candidate’s remarks.
The exchange prompted additional attention from the public and political observers, who stressed the importance of respectful discourse in local elections. The incident was discussed in various digital forums and news roundups, highlighting the impact of online statements on real-world civic participation and trust in the electoral process.
