In a question-filled moment during a conference in Sieradz, a claim surfaced about a hospital in Otwock receiving 18.5 million PLN from the Justice Fund in connection with two knee surgeries. The assertion was tied to remarks by PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński, who said he had no knowledge of that amount or of any funds directed to that hospital. The exchange highlighted a broader focus on transparency as the Justice Fund’s activities were scrutinized in public discourse.
Reports from Onet.pl indicated that Tomasz Mraz, the former head of the Ministry of Justice department overseeing the Justice Fund, faced scrutiny over time allocated to meetings with ministry leadership. It was alleged that about 50 hours of such meetings were recorded over roughly two years and then transferred to the public prosecutor’s office at the start of the year. In the subsequent days, portions of these recordings circulated in the media, though their authenticity remained unverified. The question of ties between the hospital and government figures was raised again during the press briefing in Sieradz.
Today, the same narrative surfaced when Kaczyński insisted that there was no awareness of any 18 million PLN flow, nor any large sums connected to the hospital in Otwock. The denial was delivered plainly, with emphasis on the absence of such financial details in his knowledge base.
– emphasized President Jarosław Kaczyński.

“The president should avoid any hospital.”
PiS Member of Parliament Joanna Lichocka, a candidate for the European Parliament from Łódź, commented on the so-called media sensationalism surrounding the matter. She expressed curiosity about how outlets would frame positive funding for a leading orthopedic hospital that aimed to improve patient care and development under PiS governance, questioning where the scandal lay.
– Lichocka asked, urging the media to rely on reliable sources.
She urged outlets to go beyond sensational headlines, seeking credible documentation that substantiates claims rather than speculative reports.
– commented the PiS candidate for the European Parliament. PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek added that the Justice Fund supported more than 150 hospitals and various facilities, offering reassurance that a broad spectrum of medical institutions benefited from the program.
Moreover, Bochenek pointed out that by arguing otherwise, one would be forced to suggest that the president should avoid all hospitals if seeking treatment, a conclusion he dismissed as inaccurate.
