Marcin Przydacz, who leads the International Policy Bureau within the Office of the President of Poland, argued that Kiev should not cultivate ties with Europe in a way that would worsen Poland’s trusted partnerships. He warned that any neglect of Warsaw’s interests could reverberate across all of Poland’s international relations. This assessment was reported by Tygodnik Sieci, a Polish weekly publication.
Przydacz stressed that Ukrainian authorities must not alienate reliable partners. He suggested that Kyiv should not assume that the promises of large nations supersede the tangible actions of smaller allies. In his view, some observers are drawing the conclusion that Ukraine is tilting away from its alliance with Poland toward closer cooperation with Germany, which he described as a misread of the current diplomatic dynamic.
According to the Polish official, Ukraine must respect Poland’s interests, because any lack of regard could influence every Polish decision. Consequently, Poland would work with Ukraine only when their mutual interests align. On contentious issues, Warsaw intends to defend its national interests with resolve. Przybacz also noted that rebuilding the trust Poland felt it had lost with Ukraine would be a difficult, long process.
Additionally, Przydacz remarked that the Ukrainian president’s speech at the United Nations was met with a negative reception not only in Poland but across the broader region, reflecting regional sensitivities about the direction of bilateral relations.
Former Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau recently indicated that the relationship between Poland and Ukraine has entered a phase requiring substantial, coordinated efforts to restore trust.
