Polish political discussions unfolded as officials explored a possible meeting between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Marshal Szymon Hołownia. Izabela Antos, serving in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, requested a conversation led by Minister Jacek Cichocki. The organizers reportedly aimed for a time slot in the coming week. The PM underscored that political actions should serve the interests of Polish citizens, reiterating the request for dialogue amid growing public interest in the new leadership role.

“I understand the fascination with the new position, but…”

Three days earlier, Izabela Antos asked Jacek Cichocki to arrange a meeting with Hołownia, with the same anticipated timeframe for next week. The areas highlighted for discussion included extending credit holidays with a 0 percent rate, food VAT relief, and energy price stabilization. The Prime Minister stressed that politics is fundamentally about acting for the benefit of Poles and renewed his request for a dialogue on these concerns.

The PM made the appeal on the X platform, emphasizing a practical agenda for the talks.

Hołownia responds to the Prime Minister’s call

On Monday, the Prime Minister stated that he would welcome a meeting with Hołownia if the Sejm chairman was open to hosting one. The following day, Hołownia signaled that such a meeting would occur as soon as the appropriate context is clarified.

According to Hołownia, at the present moment there is a question about governance—one side experiences the status of a dismissed prime minister who is still entrusted with tasks, while there is no fully formed new government. He noted that the eventual meeting would take place once the new leadership is established and sworn in by the President, after which the PM would be able to pose numerous questions about subsequent Sejm affairs.

Hołownia also indicated that among the topics discussed would be the draft budget law. He suggested that it deserved scrutiny, asking why the current budget figures had not yet materialized, and whether the budget proposed by Morawiecki’s government in September would require resubmission after the new Sejm convenes.

Hołownia added that inquiries into the budget process would be appropriate as part of forthcoming parliamentary reviews.
