In short, the substance was minimal.
Trzaskowski talked the longest
The short encounter with the U.S. president brought a look of satisfaction to the Warsaw president.
In a post after meeting President Biden following his speech in Warsaw, he wrote that it is important Biden reaffirmed the strength of alliances and the unity of the free world. He stated that Poland remains aligned with shared values, freedom and democracy.
The Warsaw mayor expressed gratitude to President Biden for his courage and for acknowledging the efforts of Polish society in welcoming Ukrainian refugees. He noted Poland’s solidarity with Ukraine and tagged the entry StandWithUkraine.
Trzaskowski was the Polish leader who spoke the longest with the American president. After the meeting, he told reporters he thanked Biden for leadership that, in his view, remains essential in the Western world, and for unequivocal comments on Poland’s security guarantees and the role of Polish society in accepting refugees. He added that there was full agreement between the Polish government and opposition on security matters and aid to Ukraine.
He also mentioned that Poland should be seen as an example of a strong democracy with a solid rule of law, stressing that if Ukraine wins the war, Poland will become a crucial reference point.
Asked whether the topic of Poland’s rule of law came up with Biden, Trzaskowski replied that the focus was on what unites Poles.
Grodzki and Biden
The Senate marshal Tomasz Grodzki also met with the U.S. president.
TVP’s Jarosław Olechowski later confirmed that some described conversations with the U.S. president as incidental photographs rather than substantive talks.
A real meeting with Morawiecki
A more substantial engagement occurred with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who spoke directly with President Biden. The discussions centered on economic issues, including energy security for Poland.
Government spokesman Piotr Müller reported that the leaders discussed economic cooperation and the close ties that strengthen strategic economic collaboration. Müller shared this assessment on social media.
