Aligned with the principle that decisions in times like these are made collectively, the Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed confidence that a clear line would be drawn. He asked ministers to prepare the government’s position so that the President would clearly know what he has to present. He spoke during today’s government meeting, addressing the ministers under Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and he referenced the session that included President Andrzej Duda and participants in the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine.
Tusk’s habit of issuing precise directions to ministers is well known. He tends to assign tasks with a sense of discipline that some observers find sharp. Even journalists who have been supportive of the government, like Jacek Żakowski, have linked Tusk’s post-meeting briefings to a stern, almost prosecutorial tone recalled from political dramas around Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko.
Tusk turned to the heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
This time the prime minister chose to address the top posts in defense and diplomacy with a specific request tied to the Ramstein gathering where President Andrzej Duda was set to participate. He delegated a sense of urgency to Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz and to Minister Sikorski, assigning them a special task to prepare a formal government position regarding the President’s participation in the Ramstein meeting.
The Prime Minister stated that he would like Mr Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Mr Radosław Sikorski to urgently prepare the government’s position regarding the President’s participation in the meeting of the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine, a directive given in the middle of the proceedings of the government meeting.
The message was clear enough to suggest that the ministries should begin work immediately so that the position would be ready for consideration as soon as possible.
– He explained.
“So that the president knows what he has to present.”
The Ramstein meeting was scheduled for October 12, and the President had decided to represent the Polish authorities there. The Prime Minister continued, stressing that a unified, well-structured position was essential so the President could present Poland’s case with authority.
In accordance with the principle that we act together in these matters, I have no doubt about that, but I would like you to prepare the government’s position so that the President knows what to present.
– He added.
Mr Prime Minister, I count on your meeting with the President on Thursday and conveying this clear position
– He concluded, turning to the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
Instructing and thanking pastors
At the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister said that as per the new tradition, the session would start with information about the situation after the flood. He announced that it would be presented by the government’s plenipotentiary for post-flood reconstruction, Marcin Kierwiński.
I have also asked Minister Adam Bodnar to inform in this section about the activities of the Public Prosecution Service in connection with the events during the flood.
– Said Tusk.
He thanked the head of the KRPM, Jan Grabiec, for preparing cooperation with the Polish Academy of Sciences.
We have had a meeting and can count on the cooperation of a team of politically neutral experts
– He inquired.
According to him, the collaboration of both the Public Prosecution Service and the PAN experts will allow us to objectively see what may have gone wrong and what types of decisions need to be taken most urgently to further inform future actions, especially before the flood. more effective.”
The president’s job?
Why hold press conferences to answer difficult questions about the flood, when one can steer the media through new topics and organize ministerial briefings in front of cameras?
– Samuel Pereira, a journalist from Telewizja wPolce24, responded on the X platform.
All of this is starting to resemble the 2007-2010 period of the late president’s administration, Lech Kaczyński. If the Prime Minister does not challenge the President’s decisions and believes that the government and the Presidential Palace share a consistent stance on this issue, why would he seek the President’s input? Moreover, questions remain about the government’s actual position.
