The PiS ad aimed to show that Poland raised the retirement age in 2012 under the guidance of then Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, reportedly at the behest of Angela Merkel. In an interview on wPolsce.pl, Przemysław Czarnek, the Minister of Education and Science, described the spot as completely successful and also referenced the Civic Platform’s positions on schooling.
The PO-PSL government has increased the retirement age
A Facebook spot circulated by Law and Justice shows Jarosław Kaczyński receiving a call from the German Ambassador in Warsaw. The envoy suggests connecting with the German Chancellor to discuss the retirement age in Poland.
There is a belief that the retirement age should align with what existed during Tusk’s term,
– states an embassy employee.
Apologies to the Chancellor, but the people of Poland will decide this matter in the upcoming referendum. Tusk no longer governs, and those orders are treated as outdated
– responded Deputy Prime Minister Kaczyński.
The Minister of Education was asked on television whether the recording would persuade Poles to participate in the October 15 referendum.
Millions of Poles learned that the retirement age in Poland, raised to 67 in 2012 during PSL figures Donald Tusk and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, including for women in rural areas, was reportedly requested or even ordered by Mrs. Angela Merkel.
– noted Prof. Czarnek. He stressed that the footage aimed to raise public awareness and that the campaign achieved that goal, calling it a 100 percent success.
Mrs. Merkel reportedly framed the issue in the film Reset as a note proposing the age increase. In response, Mr. Tusk allegedly signaled readiness to support the change in Poland and instructed Kosiniak-Kamysz of the PSL to implement Merkel’s directive with a precise, Germanic approach.
– affirmed the head of the Ministry of Education, adding that the video’s purpose was to reveal the sources of orders during the PO-PSL period when Poland was perceived as influenced by German and Russian interests on its soil.
KO’s requirements regarding the school
The Minister of Education was also asked about the Civic Coalition’s school policy proposals. During the weekend congress, Donald Tusk’s party suggested depoliticizing and de-ideologizing schooling, digitalizing classrooms and boosting teacher pay by a significant margin. The proposals were broad and left many specifics unspecified. Critics warned that general statements could deteriorate into empty promises, while supporters argued they reflected a vision for modern education.
Czarnek characterized the Coalition’s plans as lacking concrete steps. He emphasized that there were numerous demands, but the proposals offered little actionable detail. He accused the opposition of politicizing education and creating ideological divides, pointing to programs and policies he claims already introduced or supported by the current government. He cited past initiatives that connected parents with schools and introduced youth programs to illustrate his point about perceived ideological influence in education.
He argued that the government had already moved education toward a highly digital framework and that claims of forthcoming digital expansion were redundant given the scale of existing investments. He listed nationwide efforts to connect schools to fast internet, expand computer equipment, and establish future-oriented laboratories, contrasting them with what he described as unfulfilled promises from the opposition and previous administrations.
Regarding the 30 percent teacher salary increase, Czarnek recalled that real wage rises were stagnant during 2012 to 2015. He suggested that future improvements would be gradual and anchored to actual budget allocations rather than campaign pledges. He claimed that the administration would implement pay increases progressively, with notable gains for lower earners and a cumulative rise overall compared to prior years. He criticized the opposition for promising changes that he says have not been delivered in the past.
– noted Minister Czarnek on wPolsce.pl.
