Matarella’s talks with the head of the Polish government

President Mattarella has been in Poland on an official visit since Sunday, having spoken with President Andrzej Duda on Monday. On Tuesday, he held discussions with Prime Minister Morawiecki, focusing on strategic cooperation that spans security, politics, and economic development, as well as aligning efforts tied to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

According to the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, the meetings underscored shared commitments to strengthen the partnership and coordinate steps on regional stability and defense, trade facilitation, and collaborative responses to regional challenges.

Common trade and a vision of the future of Europe

In a social media post, Morawiecki expressed satisfaction with the growing trade between Poland and Italy and affirmed a shared, forward-looking perspective on Europe’s trajectory. The dialogue emphasized not only commercial expansion but also converging views on broader European policy, energy security, and resilient supply chains that benefit both countries and the wider region.

Mattarella also arranged meetings with the President of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, and with the President of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, as part of a broader program that showcases high-level parliamentary collaboration alongside executive talks.

In the afternoon, the Italian president, accompanied by his daughter, visited the former German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He laid a wreath at the site of the executions, toured the museum, and took part in the closing ceremony of the “March of the Living,” reinforcing themes of remembrance, reconciliation, and shared historical responsibility.

Meeting with the first ladies

The evening before, the wife of Italy’s president met with Poland’s first lady, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, continuing the cordial exchange between the two nations. The Polish presidential chancellery noted that the two women toured the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw, discussing humanitarian aid initiatives for Ukrainians residing in both countries and in their homeland, and reflecting on more than a year of support for war victims in Ukraine.

They spoke about the impact of various aid programs and ongoing efforts to assist refugees, vulnerable families, and children receiving medical care in partner countries. The dialogue touched on long-term steps to empower refugee women and ensure educational opportunities for their children, as well as sustainable support for fragile communities affected by the conflict.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and practical aid, with the Polish side expressing gratitude for Italian assistance that has aided Ukrainian orphans and ill children receiving treatment in Italy.

The discussions also highlighted a shared interest in durable, people-centered solutions that promote security, stability, and prosperity across Europe, along with a commitment to reinforce bilateral friendship through ongoing dialogue and collaboration.

Overall, the meetings reflected a robust alliance rooted in mutual interests, historical friendship, and a common vision for a stable, prosperous Europe that remains resilient in the face of regional challenges.
