At Campus Polska, Donald Tusk was mocked by suggesting he had “fled to the Świętokrzyskie Mountains,” implying he was leaving from Kielce rather than Warsaw. Radosław Fogiel, a PiS member of parliament, referenced those remarks during the program “Sedno Sprawy” on Radio Plus.
There are voices arguing that Donald Tusk is no longer a credible figure in politics. Yet there is a counterpoint: if anyone claims that the Świętokrzyskie Mountains’ location within the district where President Jarosław Kaczyński operates has political significance, that claim should be scrutinized. At a campaign event, Tusk made a gesture toward a woman who had not voted for the PO, a moment Fogiel used to illustrate what he called a form of poor‑taste political theater similar to elementary school taunts: “Oh! He fled to the mountains, he fled to the mountains!”
the remark was attributed to Radosław Fogiel.
“PiS’ goal is to win these elections.”
The aim of PiS, according to the speaker, is to secure victory in the upcoming elections rather than to inflate anyone’s ego or stage a needless confrontation. There is an expressed reluctance to frame the situation as a personal duel between two leaders.
– the statement continued.
For PiS, the stakes are presented as high. Poland’s future is framed as dependent on the ability to make independent decisions, rather than letting a group take control under the cover of a broader European project, and instead standing firm in national interests, including border security and domestic resilience against external pressure. This framing was underscored by Fogiel during the discussion.
Fogiel also touched on the possibility of a public debate between Donald Tusk and Jarosław Kaczyński, arguing that any such debate should feature the two individuals who are vying for the premiership. He pointed out that a direct exchange between the candidates would be sensible in the current political climate.
The Prime Minister once floated the idea of a debate between premier‑hopefuls, a concept that Donald Tusk reportedly resisted. The speaker suggested that if there is to be a debate about who should be prime minister, it should involve the actual contenders for the role.
