No further decisions are expected in the coming days regarding MP Grzegorz Braun, according to Confederation MP Krzysztof Tuduj, who told PAP that internal affairs should not be steered by political opponents.

During Tuesday’s session in the Sejm, Braun used a powder fire extinguisher to douse Hanukkah candles lit at a ceremony. He later returned to the Sejm podium as the assembly was chaired by Konfederacja Deputy Marshal Krzysztof Bosak. The gathering was then taken over by Marshal Szymon Hołownia, who announced that Braun would be excluded from the meeting and that a prosecutor would be asked to review the disruption of a religious ceremony. Hołownia also announced that the Presidium of the Sejm sanctioned Braun by halving his salary for three months and suspending his entire allowance for six months. Reports on Wednesday indicated Braun was suspended from the Confederation Club and barred from speaking at the parliamentary podium for an extended period.

The Left Club filed a motion to dismiss Krzysztof Bosak from the role of deputy chairman of the Sejm, arguing that his allowing Braun to address the chamber and his permitting an anti-Semitic speech portrayed an improper handling of the incident. The Left pointed out that Bosak’s insufficient response prompted Hołownia to take over the proceedings.

Tuduj noted in a statement that the Confederation Club condemned Braun’s act immediately after the event.

The following day, a strict resolution was adopted to suspend the member from the Confederation Club and to bar him indefinitely from speaking at the parliamentary podium. The Left’s criticism of Deputy Marshal Bosak—who, echoing claims of collective responsibility—proposed a motion for dismissal to the Presidium of the Sejm was seen by some as a cynical manipulation of the situation, Tuduj added.

– according to the MP.

He further stated, “PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński has signaled cooperation with the Left in this vote.”

These developments, coupled with pressure from the Sejm’s chair, Szymon Hołownia, suggest that no additional decisions are imminent in the near term.

Tuduj said that the Confederation will not permit such forms of political expression when they threaten public health and safety. He underscored that internal matters should not be subject to political manipulation by opponents.

Witold Tumanowicz, another Confederation MP, commented to PAP that the Left should expect clear consequences for attacks on churches and the disruption of worship by politicians from this group.

The Warsaw Public Prosecutor’s Office opened ex officio proceedings regarding Tuesday’s Sejm events, with a member of the Sejm present during the incident. The spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, Szymon Banna, announced this update on Wednesday. (Source reporting: wPolityce)
